Adding change or withdraw consent options

What is required?

According to GDPR Article 7.3 and Article 29 Data Protection Working Party (WP29)'s updated Guidelines on transparency under Regulation 2016/679 (wp260rev.01) it has to be as easy for the website user to withdraw a consent as it was to give it in the first place. It should be clear to the website user - at the time when the user is asked for consent regarding the use of his personal data - that the consent can be withdrawn at any time.

How can I implement it?

The possibility for the website user to withdraw - and/or change - a consent is included in the Cookiebot solution. If you have correctly followed the last part of step 4 in our manual installation guide or you have used step 3 in our standard installation guide then this possibility is included in the Cookie Declaration on your website. If you have not made use of the Cookie Declaration, then you must create your own ways for the user to withdraw his consent. From the cookie consent banner you can either link to the Cookie Declaration or explain to the user how else it is possible to withdraw a consent. See How can I customize the content in the cookie consent banner?

If you have our Cookie Declaration implemented, you can link to the Cookie Declaration from the cookie consent banner and make use of a text such as:

English (EN): "You can at any time change or withdraw your consent from the Cookie Declaration on our website."

Danish (DA): "Du kan til enhver tid ændre eller tilbagetrække dit samtykke fra Cookiedeklarationen på vores hjemmeside."

German (DE): "Sie können Ihre Einwilligung jederzeit von der Cookie-Erklärung auf unserer Website ändern oder widerrufen."

French (FR): "À tout moment, vous pouvez modifier ou retirer votre consentement dès la Déclaration relative aux cookies sur notre site Web."

Italian (IT): "In qualsiasi momento è possibile modificare o revocare il proprio consenso dalla Dichiarazione dei cookie sul nostro sito Web."

Spanish (ES): "En cualquier momento puede cambiar o retirar su consentimiento desde la Declaración de cookies en nuestro sitio web."

Please note that if you have enabled Cross-domain Consent Sharing on multiple domains, then the same banner text will be displayed on all the domains. It may therefore be necessary to include multiple links to the different Cookie Declarations where the user can change or withdraw his consent (although the actual content of the various Cookie Declarations will be the same for all the domains where Cross-domain Consent Sharing is enabled).
