Cookiebot CMP uses your IP address to determine your location so it can determine how it should behave for visitors in your specific region.
It does this by looking up the IP address in a repository.
Determining a visitor's location using IP address to geolocation lookup is isn't always accurate though.
IP addresses are assigned by Internet Service Providers (ISP) and can be registered in a different location than where the device a visitor uses to connect to the internet is actually physically located.
Furthermore, factors like the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPN), proxy servers, or even ISP using dynamic IP addresses can also distort this data.
IP addresses were never intended to be used to pinpoint exact locations, so the use of these is not foolproof way to determine a location.
There are however no other methods we can use to accurately and reliably determine a device's physical location.
