Tag Assistant is a commonly used tool that can help with tag quality and check potential issues related to Google Tags and Consent Mode. A recent update in the extension displays a warning about the use of CMPs, just like in the image below:
The above is just an informative note and does not scan specific errors on the website. It appears when any CMP is detected, to guide you through the necessary steps. Please follow the steps provided to ensure the GCM is implemented and working through all the steps:
- Review your CMP's configuration settings, particularly how it integrates with Google Tag Manager or Google Consent Mode →About Consent Mode and Google Tag Manager Deployment
- Ensure the CMP is correctly signaling consent status to Google tags (e.g., updating the dataLayer or using Consent Mode APIs). → Check if GCM is correctly implemented
- Test the tag behavior by clearing your consent preferences (often possible via the CMP banner/settings) and providing/denying consent again, observing Tag Assistant and console logs. → Use the Troubleshoot tag option in Tag Assistant window
- Check if the CMP itself is blocking Google scripts before consent is granted, and ensure it correctly allows them after consent is given for the appropriate categories.
By doing the above, you should be able to correctly implement Cookiebot CMP with Google Consent Mode and verify your implementation. You can also consult the official Google documentation on the topic here.
For a complete check we suggest to use our Google Consent Mode Checker, or refer to your scan report. The monthly scan report indicates any compliance issues you may have on your website, including a Consent Mode check:
Besides the GCM check, the scan report contains useful information about the cookies found and flags potential issues. You should always consult your scan report for specific details. For additional information you may refer to: Understanding the scan report.
