Link a CONSENT-ID to a real person in case of complaining

  • Hi Lea,

In case of complaining to the authorities the person who is complaining needs to provide a consent ID and then this consent ID could be used in order to see which consent has been given.
The "person" needs to provide the CONSENT-ID in their browser, not the other way around. This way we can look up the ID and see which consent was given.

The customer who owns the website (Cookiebot account) uses the consent ID to find the consent in their logs in the Manager. Hope this would answer your question.

    Hello Spas,

Thanks a lot for this explanations. But what happen if the person says he/she neven gave any permission (so he/she is not supposed to provide any CONSENT-ID) and you want to prove he/she did in fact (but forgot since or whatever)?

    Thanks,
    Léa

  • Hi Lea,

Not giving a consent is also a consent. By not giving permission for specific cookies  (they have to uncheck all checkboxes and click ok) then the user accept only the cookies categories that are checked in the consent banner, which results in a consent id.

In case that the website uses explicit consent and the user does not click the button then it is important that the prior consent is implemented correctly. If the prior-consent is implemented correctly, according to step 3 in the guidelines, then no cookies or tracking will be enabled on the website until the users consents, so all cookies would be hold on until the users allow them.
Then it is on the user to prove that they were being tracked without permission, in this case the user would provided its consent ID so it could be used as a prove.

    Regards,
    Spas
